Mrs. Oyhenart's Class
Welcome to third grade! My name is Mrs. Oyhenart and I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year. This is my 25th year in Prince William County and my 18th year at Lake Ridge Elementary where I have worked primarily with second and third graders.
I grew up in Minnesota as one of five children and moved to Virginia with my family at the start of high school. I received both my Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education and my Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from George Mason University. I recently finished my second Masters from GMU in Mathematics Education Leadership as a K-8 math specialist.
I live in Fairfax with my husband, John, who is an energy consultant for a company based in Texas. My son, Alec, is a Georgetown University graduate living in Washington, D.C. He works for a company based in Oslo, Norway, that deals with carbon markets and environmental analysis. He is also a guitarist and song writer. My daughter, Kara, is a second year student at the University of Virginia. Her current interests are Spanish, sociology, and linguistics. She is a member of the Virginia Belles acapella group who perform at UVA and up and down the east coast. We also have two silly cats named Thompson and Tiger who came to us from Mdm. Rigot!
Our classroom goals are to develop strong reading, math, and writing skills while becoming independent, hardworking thinkers and learners. We strive to be good citizens, help others with a smile, and make good choices each day. We incorporate technology in many ways, especially using our wonderful Activboard and voters. No matter what we do each day, we aim to have fun while we learn! This is going to be a great year--welcome aboard!
